Manhattan Island, bounded by the Hudson, East, and Harlem rivers, is the most densely populated of New York City’s 5 boroughs. Among the worlds major commercial, financial and cultural centers, it’s the heart of “the Big Apple.”
The island of Manhattan, translated as “island of many hills,” was originally inhabited by Wappinger Native American people before being purchased by Peter Minult and Henry Hudson of the Dutch East India Trading Company. The island was originally named New Amsterdam and was occupied by 270 settlers with forts, homes, farms and government buildings. In 1664, the English captured New Amsterdam and gave it the name New York.
We design and assemble all of our maps in the Reno/Tahoe area, and all laser etching is done by lasers that we design and build in house. These maps are etched into Baltic birch wood and hand framed with a wire wrap along the back, allowing you to hang it as soon as it arrives! We hope you love it!
