Manhattan New York City
Manhattan Island, bounded by the Hudson, East and Harlem rivers, is the most densely populated of New York City’s 5 boroughs. Among the world’s major commercial, financial and cultural centers, it’s the heart of “the Big Apple.” Manhattan has historically been the major nexus for American arts and culture, with important movements such as Pop Art and the Harlem Renaissance arising from the borough's art scenes.
The Manhattan 3D wood map measures 24 x 30 x 2 inches in a dark walnut stained poplar frame. Weighing roughly 9 lbs, the map is pre wired on the back for easy display. Portrayed on the legend is the following history:
The island of Manhattan, translated as "island of many hills," was originally inhabited by Wappinger Native American people before being purchased by Peter Minult and Henry Hudson of the Dutch East India Trading Company. The island was originally named New Amsterdam and was occupied by 270 settlers with forts, homes, farms and government buildings. In 1664, the English captured New Amsterdam and gave it the name New York.
