Located 11 miles northwest of Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake is 328 feet deep of fresh water in Northeast California. On this 28in x 20in x 2in map, you can locate the tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad that run along the Schallenberger Ridge. The historic route of the Lincoln Highway, the first automobile road across America, follows the northern shoreline and climbs to Donner Pass. Both the lake and the pass were named after the ill-fated Donner Party which wintered unintentionally near the lake in 1846. Donner Memorial State Park and Museum is on the east end of the lake and provides campsites with access to several different beaches. There are also various hiking trails in the area in the summer, along with popular snowshoe and cross-country trails in the winter.
